Who's my Teacher?

Teacher's day is over and the question about education sparks questions again.

Our class teacher is really caring and loving, but sadly a good portion of our class doesn't act as though it is even a bit significant. Everyday, she comes to class and 45 minutes(one period) later, she goes frustrated. In the Physics class, hardly a few ever listens.

Why?

Lack of the so called 'value education'. Well, I'm really against it, because as far as I've seen and heard , its all about some religion. And, moreover, who cares to listen.

No, that's not it.

I think it is the lack of mainly two things.

Firstly, the lack of a deep sense of respect and gratitude towards ones teachers.

Who is a teacher?
To me ,

  • anyone who can teach me anything of value.
  • Anyone who advices me for good.
  • Anyone who points me in the right direction(metaphorically speaking).

I have no idea as to how others can inculcate this into the students. I'll leave that to the "educationists" to figure out.

Secondly, often, it is a wrong approach to teaching, the wrong method, the wrong impressions and such.
I love physics, and it is such  a beautiful subject. But, the wrong approach to any subject can make it a nightmare. As soon as I realized this and the fact that Physics was and still is my favorite, I felt much better in the class. Even though I've requested my teacher to change her methods for a better class, I don't think that's going to make much of a difference, now that almost everyone in the class is totally distracted.

That brings to another interesting aspect of a teacher. Every successful teacher is in constant competition with their students. Not in terms of intellect but in terms of staying in touch and precise. The moment a teacher makes a mistake, its all lost. Getting back a class back in the palm of your hands is really the key. The very first day to the very last, a teacher has to  stay on the top and be ever vigilant. Good enough to anticipate every students every action and yet forever be one among them. Forever a student, in a give and take relationship with every child. Teaching and learning. Sharing and caring. Encouraging difficult questions. Any teacher who stops a student from asking a question is not a teacher. That's a teacher worth having!

An open mind

I felt like writing this because I have been fighting with someone over how I should be doing a part of my project..........

How important is it to have an open mind?
If you ask me ,I would say pretty important.

Why?

It is only with a wide open mind that you can take in new thoughts. As someone famous said ( I dont remember who)..........."You can only fill an empty cup."or in other words......"You can only enter a room with open doors" (Of course, there are other ways). So ,if you keep your mind closed how would new ideas be able to enter or emerge?

Keep your mind open,to all things, filter it out to what you feel is right and you only as much.I mentioned 'what you feel is right' because thinking for yourself is another part of opening your mind.In our present educational system,we are not making a "Thinking Population" rather a "Taking Population".We students are made to gulp down loads of texbooks ;) and put it down on an 'exam' paper.

What do we gain from it ?

For most people, this means that the science you study today will be history tomorrow ;)
so what are we doing wrong?

I would blame more of it on our teachers and parents than on our curriculum. Even when textbooks prescribe practical or activity based learning , in this fast paced and 'competitive' world of ours ,everyone is more interested in completing the portins no matter how and somehow get "very high marks",no matter the cost, even at the cost of the childs future.
The child may get the "very high marks" the others are expecting of him but the question to be raised is

"Did HE gain anything susbtantial OTHER than the high marks?"

With that thought I leave you...........

Remember ,each one of us have to change before wecan change the society

WHY?

Today being in India our school like most others asked the students to spend sometime as "service day".In our case 1 hour.
Each class was assigned a particular area and ours was a region filled with grasses behind our school.the teachers too joined us for the event.
But as always i was disappointed by the attitudes of the teachers and the largely ignorant students.
Only a few maybe 1 or 2 of my schoolmates were worried about the activities of the day.
Every year no matter how much more is learned every year, the students and even more sadly the teachers who are supposed to lead us remain largely ignorant of what exactly is top be done!!!!!!!!
Everyone loves plucking all the grasses, all the plants but none are worried about the numerous plastics, including toffee wrappers, bottles and covers that are spread all over the campus the students who are so keen on taking out the plants after exerting so much force are not able to pickup these fore mentioned plastics!!!!!

Why are we not able to ask Why???/
Why are we just blindly following our orders???????
Why are we not bothered about our only home?????? THE EARTH
